About Us

Well, it says at the top, doesn't it? Entertainers & Musicians Taxation and Accountancy Services.

WHAT?

We are a firm of accountants, specialising in dealing with tax and accounts puzzles for people in all branches of the music industry, actors, TV & Film production people, stained glass window designers and lots of other strange people. We specialise in dealing with people who are self-employed by accident, rather than people who wanted to be their own boss.

HOW?

We're very good at what we do. Well, we would say that, wouldn't we? However, to give you some idea of how good, the firm has grown from its humble beginnings of 25 clients in 1984 to nearly 700 in 2006. This growth is totally through word of mouth recommendation. In truth, we got 1 client from an advert and 3 or 4 via our presence in a Musicians Year Book that lists the specialist firms but everyone else has come because we did a good job for a friend and continue to do so.

WHEN?

The firm began in 1984, with a few musicians as clients. These were mainly people who had become Geoff's clients during his time working for Lubbock Fine and what is now Deloitte & Touche. They were nice people and they seemed to like the way we did things. And so they commended their friends and colleagues to us. Since 1984, the firm has grown and taken on other people. For a while, the firm became a partnership with Angie Lee but Angie moved on in 2004 and there are currently six of us cluttering up the office and arguing over whose turn it is to go and get the milk.

WHO?

The Accounts department is Bob, Ellie & Helen.
The Tax Department is Michael and Geoff.
Jane runs the office and she, Bob & Ellie handle VAT Returns.
Geoff does bits of everything else.

HOW MUCH?

No pussyfooting . Our 'average' client currently pays us £235 + VAT for their accounts although this can be a little more or less according to how complex their accounts and their books are. In addition to this if we are preparing Tax Returns there is a further £90-£105 + VAT for preparing a Tax Return and other tax work. Clients are usually asked for an interim payment of £50 + VAT when they join us, which is then taken off the first real bill. This is a lower level of fees than our competitors. Bigger firms tend to charge more, as well as losing some of the personal relationship that we see as an important component for people who have just blundered into self-employment.

WHERE?

Nottingham. It's a nice place and we've been here since relocating from London 18 years ago. Every so often Geoff visits London where we use an office near Euston Tower (usually the last Monday of every month). That way, we aren't saddled with overheads and don't have to spend any longer than necessary in London!
